Ready for the start of the NBA

Jacob used his hat pass at school today.  He said he wanted to get ready for the start of the NBA season by sporting all of his Bulls gear.  I'd say he's got it pretty much covered.  Go Bulls!

Upward

Another week of basketball in the books.  Emily was part of the halftime show today.  They had to try to get balloons in to the basket which proved to be difficult with the hoop at the 10 foot level!  She didn't make it, but had fun none the less.  It never ceases to amaze me that she has no reservations about going out in front of people to do something like this but gets embarassed when I see her dancing in the basement!

Saturdays with Upward

Each and every Saturday for this eight week season we find ourselves in the gym for most of the day. Jacob's team is continuing to progress, winning and improving each week.  Jacob's skills are growing and is showing that he is quite the basketball star and offensive leader.  Emily's team has a lot of fun but don't keep score yet.  She is a great defensive player and has really matured a lot this season.  She is no longer timid and has a lot of confidence now.  Being the tallest kid on her team, has certainly helped.  Emily was part of the halftime entertaintment today, trying to bounce a ping pong ball on to a peanut butter sandwich, with spiritual application of course.

Let the season begin!

Another season of Upward basketball is upon us.  The kids have practiced for the last few weeks and today was their first game.  Emily is the tallest kid, and only girl, on her team.  She has a lot more confidence, understanding of the game and more general interest in what's going on than last year.  I think this is really going to be a growth year for her.  Jacob is now playing full court and shooting at a 10 ft. rim.  His age group is also getting more competitive and interesting.  We love watching the kids play - even if it makes for a crazy Saturday with Emily's game in the morning and Jacob's game in the afternoon!

That's how you make an entrance!

At Jacob's last basketball game he had a plan on how to  make his grand entrance onto the court - imitate LeBron James with the crossed arms.  He was so excited and it was so cute.  We were surprised that he actually did it.  A superstar in the making?  We think so.
